George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire franchise has become a huge hit for HBO with the first season of its live-action adaptation. Whether the same can be said for the dark fantasy series' game adaptation will soon be known, as Cyanide announced today that the PC real-time strategy game A Game of Thrones: Genesis will be available at retail and digital stores on September 29.

A Game of Thrones: Genesis chronicles more than 1,000 years, charting the rise and fall of the royal families that make up the Kingdom of Westeros. Scenarios that players engage in include Aegon the Conqueror's invasion of the continent, the establishment of Nymeria in Dorne, and the rise of the Others beyond The Wall.

Players will have a number of options to emerge victorious. Beyond the obvious military conquest, the game accommodates economic warfare as well as intrigue-laden diplomatic gambits. A Game of Thrones: Genesis also features an eight-person multiplayer mode.

A Song of Ice and Fire tells an intricate, epic fantasy story of the royal families of Westeros, who face uncertain times due to the unexpected reemergence of a number of ancient races. Beyond the HBO TV series, the franchise has previously been spun off into a card and board game.

In addition to confirming the game's release date, Cyanide said A Game of Thrones: Genesis will be available at retail in a Collector's Edition SKU. The up-sell box includes special packaging, as well as a map of Westeros and two pieces of artwork from the game. Pricing information was not revealed.
