Disney Investor Day is ramping up its announcements, and the biggest one to arrive so far is the announcement of a new Alien series on FX. That's right, there's a new series featuring horrifying Xenomorphs coming to a TV near you.

FX Network chairman John Landgraf made the announcement during the event. "FX's Alien will be helmed by Fargo and Legion's Noah Hawley stepping into the creator executive producer chair, working alongside Sir Ridley Scott set not too far into our future," explained Landgraf. "It's the first alien story set on earth. And by blending both the timeless horror of the first alien film with a non-stop action of the second, it's going to be a scary thrill ride that will blow people back in their seats."

The series is currently in development for FX, and no premiere date is set yet. Disney revealed a title card for the upcoming show, and that's all we know.

Things have been quiet for the world created by Scott and artist H.R. Giger as the Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant--a prequel to the Alien trilogy--came and went in 2017 with little fanfare.

Since then, the biggest thing to come out of the franchise is the 2014 survival horror game Alien: Isolation, which also launched a digital series in 2019.

While Landgraf mentioned this is the first time an Alien story is set on Earth, Xenomorphs ran amok on our home planet in both 2004's Alien vs. Predator and it's 2007 sequel Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem--but no one really considers those part of the Alien canon anyway.
