Mario Kart Tour is expanding with two new members of the Kong family. Joining Donkey and Diddy are Funky and Dixie Kong, both of whom debuted in the Donkey Kong Country series on the SNES.

Neither character is available in Nintendo's flagship Mario Kart game, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Switch, and this is actually Dixie Kong's first appearance in the Mario Kart series. Both characters look to be modelled on their appearances in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

The characters are joining the game as part of the Jungle Tour, which will present a new opportunity to collect Grand Stars. You can see them in action in the trailer below.

Funky Kong is something of a fan-favorite, an extremely 90s character whose sunglasses, bandana, and surfboard denote a very era-specific version of "cool". Dixie was Diddy's companion in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, and the main protagonist of Donkey Kong Country 3.

Mario Kart Tour recently updated to version 2.1.0, which added new multiplayer options.
