Free SimCity DLC offers sponsored Nissan Leaf car dock

Sponsored DLC offers in-game happiness for displaying a company logo.

Maxis is offering sponsored DLC for SimCity, starting with a free Nissan Leaf charging station.

No Caption Provided

In-game, the Nissan Leaf charging station offers no real downsides--the building generates happiness without requiring power, water, or workers. It doesn't generate any waste. The in-game advertisement does, however, feature a prominent Nissan logo and fills a player's city with Nissan's electric Leaf cars.

"Plopping down the Nissan LEAF® Charging Station will add happiness to nearby buildings," says Maxis. "Adding the Charging Station will not take power, water or workers away from your city. Zoom in to the streets of cities and players will start seeing a percentage of their Sims from all wealth classes driving the electric vehicles. The Charging Station produces no garbage or sewage as well making it pollution free."

Any SimCity player interested in the Nissan Leaf charging station can download it for free from Origin or the in-game store. The content will be available for the next six months.

There would be plenty stuff like this, if we would get single player mode. Modders can achieve amazing things. FU EA.

@highlanderjimd @i_like_pie223 The tiny maps are perfect for Nissan Leaf's autonomy which is about 35km before a 6 hours charge or so. Now the concept unveils lol

I wonder if they will add an apple store DLC for all the iDiots? It will cost £50 and have one fixed place on the map you can place it. Nothing electronic or commercial will be allowed near it either.

@i_like_pie223 You did ABSOLUTELY everything to do in one week? Every great work? Played every region and maxed a city in each city location? Maxed every specialization? Well... My dear good sir... Maybe. Just MAYBE you weren't forced to exclusively play sim city for one week. Maybe playing just a few hours of this game a day would have given you more than a week of entertainement. Also, why exactly does this game and its DLC prove anything about the end of mod creation??? Are you just aware of Steam Workshop and the gazillikons of mod there is for ALL of your favorite game?

That is actually pretty cool. I don't mind when its something believable. Give me billboards too if you want. Hell throw in a mcdonalds or two. The more realistic the better.

@BoltNinety An electric car charging station that doesn't use power is "believable"?

Next we'll get a Burger King that boosts health.

@Tridus @BoltNinety It has solar panels on the roof, if you look at the picture more closely, so it doesn't use any power from the grid. But one does wonder about its environmental impact since the production of solar panels are a very polluted affair.

Touché, didn't think about that dimension. Well this makes LEAF station a pollutor and an energy black hole.

@Grimkillah @Tridus @BoltNinety Actual electric car charge stations run at very high power levels so they can recharge a car more quickly than over several hours. Solar panels on the roof wouldn't give it enough juice to charge one car at a time, let alone several of them. That'd be why they're all connected to the power grid.

This building was designed by Nissan marketing.

At least the station can be burnt down, right? Hell, it may even be environmentally friendly to do so. Nissan LEAF® Charging Station: Runs clean, burns cleaner.

EA's company practice is really depressing me lately. I'd rather download one of those games off the app store that trick you into spending £60 on in game currency... at least they're sleazy in an honest kind of way.

haha, in game ads for making more money eh? still thinking about money over providing a decent experience for the consumer then. isn't that what caused the problems this game has had in the first place?

Ew. Smells filthy this marketing DLC.

Realistically makes me more inclined to avoid whatever the product is when the product placement pisses me off.
I know I know, "just dont download the DLC"
And I wont. But the knowledge its there makes me lose respect for both Nissan and Sim City.
Whats next? A Boeing terminal at your airport granting you massive planes that dont take off?
