Free SimCity DLC offers sponsored Nissan Leaf car dock

Sponsored DLC offers in-game happiness for displaying a company logo.

Maxis is offering sponsored DLC for SimCity, starting with a free Nissan Leaf charging station.

No Caption Provided

In-game, the Nissan Leaf charging station offers no real downsides--the building generates happiness without requiring power, water, or workers. It doesn't generate any waste. The in-game advertisement does, however, feature a prominent Nissan logo and fills a player's city with Nissan's electric Leaf cars.

"Plopping down the Nissan LEAF® Charging Station will add happiness to nearby buildings," says Maxis. "Adding the Charging Station will not take power, water or workers away from your city. Zoom in to the streets of cities and players will start seeing a percentage of their Sims from all wealth classes driving the electric vehicles. The Charging Station produces no garbage or sewage as well making it pollution free."

Any SimCity player interested in the Nissan Leaf charging station can download it for free from Origin or the in-game store. The content will be available for the next six months.

whats the problem? its advertisement, Facebook does it all the time, no one cry's about it. Give me a break, this is far from brain washing, look up the definition. It is a marketing plan, and EA is getting a slice, so chill out. Your brain wont turn to mush from advertisement, just because a game does it, doesn't make it evil or wrong. so grow the hell up you noobs.

Whoa! This is amazing! A free car dock from Nissan! I'm pumped!

Forget about everything else, this shit is the best thing to be released this year!

- Said no-one ever

EA has been amazing...at kicking their supporters in the balls, monetizing everything they develop, and ruining their own game series.

If only it was a Free to Play game, it wouldn't have so much criticism.
But come on!! Adding ads with 1 month of release (and what a rocky first month) is just stupid.

I can't be the only person in the world that wants to walk into the Maxis office and take a dump on someone's desk.

You know, kind of like what they did to me when I installed Simcity

I don't mind product placement in games so long as it's not overly intrusive. This is an interesting way of implementing it.

Indifferent.

I never really minded product placement in my sports or racing games. It adds a great sense of authenticity to the games.

Free DLC is always nice, but I just dont want it thrown in my face too much; have it optional, where if I want the DLC for free, I'll make the commitment knowing that the content is ad supported.

@illmatic87 If you download this DLC for Bioshock infinite all the NPCs that attack you will be wearing clothes with the EA logo. It's optional of course but if you download it you'll also find more ammunition on every level.

Well...I Have Very Mixed Reactions with this, on one hand it's a really...disgraceful thing to do when i first heard it, Mini Ads in your game?

But it got me thinking a little bit more, Ads in game like this is actually pretty good, it makes your city more, normal. But hey... it's free i won't complain and it does not really change the game very much "Cough" DRM"

And now we see what EA's plan for SimCity has been all along - to monetize the game in such a way that those who paid full price for it are treated like products for advertisers rather than consumers. (And OF COURSE adding in an advertisement in the game for the Nissan Leaf would have no costs or downsides!)

Yet another reason I won't be buying SimCity. I don't mind in-game advertising in freemium/f2p games where the advertising is subsidizing the fact that you're not paying anything to play. But I also feel that developers should give players a chance to pay full price to have a "deluxe edition" that removes those elements (and adds in anything that's monetized).

Perhaps the biggest problem with SimCity is that EA clearly intended it to be an MMO Strategy title, but sold it through a traditional model. It's infuriating to those who just wanted a SimCity 5 rather than a SimCity Social.

@bluefox755 @SecularSage Better to plop it before your sims gather to the City Hall to request a very necessary Nissan Leaf car dock...Then comes the Starbucks and Walmarts? No wait Wal mart would take one quarter of a map..

Now they're adding in-game advertising?!?!?! Nothing breaks a game's immersion more than that!!! In the case of SimCity a created city wouldn't belong to me anymore, it would feel like EA owns it if they can edit and change it with real life advertising.

its pathetic that this is considered a "free DLC" by EA when you can find 1000's of "sponsored" mods feauring real life companies on the STEX for sc4 at no charge what so ever.

and this is pretty much a cheat building since it has no negatives and requires nothing but an upfront construction cost.

THANKS EA. YOU ARE SO KIND AND GENEROUS.

im really glad Maxis/EA ripped of Cities XL. it makes me hate Simcity even more.

@i_like_pie223 The age of user created mods is going along quite well, it's just not in the land of AAA games.

That's okay, since EA's stuff is overpriced junk anyway. Spend your money elsewhere.
