Fox Animates Anastasia

One of the big animated movies of the winter won't be coming from Disney but 20th Century Fox.

As the summer movie season winds down, it's time to look toward the fall and winter for some of the better releases. Animated features have, in the past few years, been released only by Disney - being virtually uncontested at the box office.

This winter, when The Little Mermaid is re-released, it will have some competition from Fox's first big-budget animated feature - Anastasia. From the previews, it looks good enough to squash anything the big 'D' might have to offer this year, and certainly isn't as slapstick as the recent Disney releases have been.

A new web site dedicated to the film is about to open, but currently only has a teaser for the movie, which was also shown before some screenings of this past spring's Star Wars Trilogy re-releases. It's definitely worth checking out if you haven't yet heard of it.

Additionally, Fox Interactive is releasing a CD-ROM based on the film, which allows kids and adults alike to journey through the story making their own decisions to help Anastasia prove her true royal identity. The CD-ROM game will be available on CD for Windows 95 and Macintosh in the fourth quarter of 1998.

Check out the movie and web site.
