Following Xbox One, PS4 Finally Comes to China Next Week

Sony will launch the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in China starting March 20.

Following a last-minute delay, Sony announced on Tuesday that it will officially launch PlayStation systems in China starting on March 20.

The PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita systems were originally slated to arrive on January 11, but Sony delayed the rollout due to "various factors," including negotiations with Chinese authorities.

China only recently lifted its decade-long ban on consoles. The country blocked the sale of consoles in 2000, citing potential harm to the physical and mental development of children. Microsoft released the Xbox One in China last year, while Nintendo has not announced any plans to bring its systems to the country.

With more gamers in China than the total United States population, China is a potentially lucrative market for Sony. However, the country's censorship rules could impact PlayStation's business in the market, along with Microsoft's.

In China, the PS4 will sell for 2,899 RMB ($468), while the PS Vita will go for 1,299 RMB ($210). In addition to support from Sony's internal studios, a total of 70 third-party developers and publishers are lined up to create a "steady stream" of games for the Chinese market, Sony said in December.

On top of the standard PS4 package, Sony will offer special bundles that pack in games such as Dynasty Warriors 8, Rayman Legends, Knack, and Trials Fusion. PS Vita bundles will be available, too, featuring games such as Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster and One Tap Hero.

Sony announced last week that it has now sold more than 20 million PS4 consoles to date.

Well.. I'm a Chinese, I like Xbox One better than PS4, but seems most people here like PS4 more :(

Both consoles have a lot of limitations in my country.

Xbox One can only run games that belongs to Chinese region,(GTA5 will never be released here).

We can only access the Chinese PSN on both PS4 and PS Vita, that means you can play such as GTA5, Battlefield 4 etc online or download DLC for them.(geniue price, pirated treatment).

Ah money, it makes things work doesn't it?. China are such fucking hypocrites. They claim that consoles are harmful to children yet when Microsoft dump a massive bag of cash on the table suddenly their science is altered. I bet Sony had to issue some sort of apology for invading all those years ago.

A Chinese website did a poll and it was shown that the people wanted the ps4 more then the xbox. Just because they don't like Japan doesn't mean they don't want the product. If that was the case the Xbox would be failing everywhere.

I don't think the PS4 will do as bad as the X1 in China.

If the sales figures released are accurate the X1 sold 100K, day 1 via pre-orders but has not sold very many consoles since. The last info I read about this stated that one of the major retailers in China had only shipped 200 consoles in Jan. 2015.

We will have to see how the day 1 sales for the PS4 look, to be able to compare if this will be a good market.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I read this as well, I guess the X1's are barely selling there now. Will be interesting to see if these do any better.

"China has more gamers than the entire u.s population" - That's an exaggeration considering 2 thirds of the countries population are starving rice farmer. But if they buy a shit ton of consoles then maybe sony and ms will make enough to release some high end consoles in a few years that can play games full HD at 60fps without any bull shit.

All it will take is one glorious eastern game to make them go out of their way to purchase the console. Honestly I think the console war ends when it releases, even tho I'd say the console war is already over, people have spoken with their wallets!

Not sure how consoles will fare in China because like in Korea, most gamers play on PC, games like League of Legends and the Chinese are big fans of competitive free to play games.
