The Five Nights at Freddy's movie was a breakout hit in 2023, and it sounds like plans are now in motion for a sequel. Star Josh Hutcherson told Variety that the team is now in the process of putting together a story for the sequel, with the aim to get to work on making a follow-up quickly.

Hutcherson went on to say that no one expected Five Nights at Freddy's to be the success that it turned out to be. "I'm dying to get back on set," he said about making another entry in the series.

"Emma Tammi, our director, was fantastic, and it was such a fun world to play in. I'm excited to see what they are doing next," he said.

Five Nights at Freddy's earned close to $290 million at the box office despite releasing day-and-date on the streaming service Peacock. The film got terrible review scores from professional critics but audiences generally loved it, according to review aggregate scores on GameSpot sister site Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie is based on the video game Five Nights at Freddy's, which was created by Scott Cawthon and tells the story of Chuck E. Cheese-like animatronics that come to life.
