First Trailer For Get Out Director's New Horror Movie Is Terrifying

I got five on it.

Jordan Peele's next horror movie is just right around the corner, and since his last film Get Out was such a huge success, Us should be on everyone's "must watch" radar. Today, on Christmas Day, the very first trailer was released for the upcoming film, which releases in March.

In the first trailer, which you can see above, the movie follows a family who goes on vacation. They quickly find themselves being stalked by a deranged family. However, these psychopaths has something peculiar about them. They look exactly like the people they're hunting.

Now Playing: Us - Official Trailer

Us stars Lupita Nyong’o as Adelaide Wilson, Winston Duke as Gabe Wilson, and Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker as members of the Tyler family. The film also features Yahya Abdul-Mateen II from Aquaman and Anna Diop from the DC Universe streaming series Titans.

Additionally, Peele has more in store for fans in 2019, as he's producing and hosting CBS All Access' new Twilight Zone. So far, we've only seen a teaser for the new show, and the only other information that's been released is that Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy, Daredevil) will serve as writer and showrunner.

Us comes to theaters on March 19, 2019.

Given recent trends in society and politics, I can already predict how this film will be received: "SocJus farms"

It happened with:

Recent Star Wars films

Crazy Rich Asians

Blackkklansman

Get Out

Marvel's Black Panther (if you're on Ben Shapiro and the mainland Chinese side of the criticism, rather than the Paul Joseph Watson side)

@nintendoboy16: I mean I get why it happens. Political propaganda without a wink or self critique doesn't make for entertaining movies. And with social-, creative-, traditional media, and big business under fire for letting prejudice take the lead, people are on edge. The 'roll your eyes' moments knocked 2 points off' my appreciation for Bird Box and The Magnificent Seven 2016 version. Everything about the Ghost Busters reboot and the Ocean's 8 movie felt like they were only made to make a statement... or to draw money from gullible people who thought watching it would be supporting a cause. Because the originals featured men and that's taboo or something. It's almost like they didn't put in half the effort or emphasis on making developed characters or story situations like they did in the originals/predecessors. Whereas I don't think it looks that forced or comes across as thinly veiled political dogma in the trailer here.

Personally I think that movies that have excellent performances from female or minority actors and good writing do a hundred times more than what those bad movies did for the cause. The good movies are the movies that truly make people appreciate the talent that you can find anywhere, and the value of diverse actors.

The next Pirates of the Caribbean though... likely to cause some uncomfortable moments. I don't think any man or woman they pick can really match Jack Sparrow, and I bet it's going to feel forced. In a 'why are you even doing this' kind of way. People are going to look for political influences there. I hope I get proven wrong on that one and that they make a stellar movie, but right now I have little faith in that, and I would have rather seen them stop making more PotC movies and move on to create a new franchise instead.

I personally liked Get Out so I'm really looking forward to seeing this one.

@KungfuKitten:

Great post. I just want to see great movies and play great games. Although diversity is important in all media it shouldn't have a "forced" feel. Bring on the quality, but also bring on the diversity.

@KungfuKitten: Still, my point is, "anti-SJW/PC" movements are just as bad as the "SJW/PC" movements they claim to be against. They're two sides of the same coin and it's getting ridiculous at how much they NEED to point out how "X is catering to the SocJus" at this point.

@nintendoboy16: Yeah that seems to be the theme of 2018: become thine enemy. I guess it makes sense somehow. We're all emotional people. So in large groups we probably tend to make the same emotional mistakes again and again. Making our friends our enemies by drawing broad strokes. No matter which side we're on.

I do have hope. I think that large groups like societies do have the ability to learn things over time. So maybe in a hundred years they won't be having these kinds of problems anymore. Sorry for the long reply. And a merry Christmas, by the way. <3

inb4 people somehow make it about race politics because most of the main cast aren't white.

This despite the fact that the trailer shows no indication that the movie has anything to do with that...

@Metallicwolf29: First off... no. they'd be doing it anyway.

second: it's not racebait just because it talks about issues that only PoC experience (not the brain surgery angle, obviously).

@ntrocketsurgery: But they wouldn’t be doing it anyway...they did it because Get Out did it so they expected his follow-up film to do the same. I expected that as well and am relieved that this movie doesn’t appear to do the same. Get Out was a great movie, but it still pushed an agenda that is over-hyped by the media to appeal to SJW’s. As earlier stated in this thread, some viewers may dock a movie for appealing to the current flawed media narrative, but many critics overly hype a movie for the same reason.

@shanesays5: Talking about real issues is now "pushing an agenda."

Meanwhile 100 years of straight white male dominance isn't pushing an agenda either.

@shanesays5: you would be right in an alternate reality where they don't do that in basically every other movie with a PoC main protagonist.

Yeah. they'd be doing it anyway.

@ntrocketsurgery: I like the movie, but it's pretty racist. The idea that liberal white people actually want to destroy African culture and use them for their own benefits is pretty racist. If the theme was reversed people would call it racist.

@yangwenli1: lol only if you only pay attention to the surface. The actual central theme, according to the guy who wrote it, was about racial fear and discomfort, and letting them define you.

but him being racist is more fun.

@ntrocketsurgery: racial fear about what? White liberals aren't racist bumpkins. White liberals are supposed to be the opposite of that, but in this movie their liberalism is a front.

@yangwenli1: The movie wasn't talking about all white people. It was saying that just because these people call themselves liberal doesnt mean they aren't racist, it's just not as overt. This is a thing that actually happens, I've seen it.

@ntrocketsurgery: Exactly. Even white liberals who purport to be the opposite of ignorant racists are actually racists too. Even the white liberal who'd vote for Obama 3 times if he could is actually just a racist. That's the message of this movie. It's just that the white liberal wants to enslave the black man's mind and destroy his culture (which is why the well spoken blacks in the film were actually enslaved by white liberals).

@yangwenli1: no. you missed the part where he wasn't talking about everyone, first off. Second he was saying that just because they behave this way doesnt mean that they aren't racist. It doesnt mean that they are either, which is why these people are portrayed as outliers. It was showing a difference in kind without saying this is everyone.

The guy who said he wouldve voted for obama's third term did so because he was trying to reassure himself that he isn't racist, because he felt that Christ (the protagonist) would need to be reminded of that. This movie is not saying yes all white people do this, or feel this way, which is again, why it was portrayed as being very strange.

@ntrocketsurgery: you're just flat out wrong. Jordan peele has said that he feels uncomfortable when he's around a ton of white people. Maybe it's partly because he notices that he starts talking like them and his mannerisms change. It doesn't matter that the movie doesn't show every white liberal family like that. Not the point. The point is there's a worry among black people in the upper parts of society that even among liberal whites, black culture is under threat. It's like even someone like Joe Biden praised Obama for being so well spoken (insinuating that he talks like an upper class white person).

@yangwenli1: your tone has changed all but completely at this point, from insinuating that he thinks all white people are racist because of a select few, to now it's just about his personal, irrational fears, and knowing that he is racist. First off I never said it wasn't about his feelings of discomfort, in fact if you go back to my original comments you'll see I even mentioned them.

So why don't you get your story straight, and your argument straight, and then come back to me. Not before.

Are you offended because it portrayed what you are inside? Is the movie still bothering you that much? Can you sleep at night? Do you need me to hold your hand and tell you everything is ok?

@yangwenli1: the idea that ALL liberal white people want that, vs one family of crazy people and a few of their rich crazy friends... two totally different things.

Continually so amused by people calling get out racist, ignorant of the fact theyre totally exposing their own racist leanings.

@snake3rules: the movie didn't need to show every white liberal family in existence as these types of people in order drive the theme home. You do realize that right? Movies use metaphor. One white liberal family can stand in for all.

@yangwenli1: ok so one white liberal family represents everyone classified as such? ok. If you're a liberal white family then you're automatically racist? What about conservative/republican families?

"Maybe it's partly because he notices that he starts talking like them and his mannerisms change. It doesn't matter that the movie doesn't show every white liberal family like that. Not the point. That was just one of your comments. Can you please inform me how to "Talk" and have the mannerism of "white" people? Oh, yes, you're definitely not racist. SMDH.

Yep so the movie was trying to say ALL liberal white people want to consume and destroy black people and their culture.... youve def hit the nail on the head... /sarcasm.

No, sorry but showing one doesnt necessarily mean its a metaphor for all. Otherwise every black gang movie was saying all black people are gang members.... because one black guy can stand in for all black people, at least according to your bulletproof logic.

And friday the 13th was really a treatise on the very real dangers of psychotic camp counselors and/or their mothers.

@snake3rules: This is an important distinction. One person in a film or story is not all people.

Hence why it's a shame that now we can't seem to allow certain characters to suffer more or have actual growth and struggle in films. People take it to mean them so they get all upset. It's a shame, how did we end up here? Too many marvel movies and not enough challenging auteur film to wake people out of these pop culture bubbles they live in.
