Australian developer Silver Lightning Software has announced its upcoming sequel to the 1998 fantasy role-playing game Ancient Evil. The game, titled Ancient Evil: The Curse of the Snake Cult, features 14 detailed maps - including outdoor and subterranean areas - and each map is four times larger than those from the original game. An updated 3D engine supports Direct3D and provides colored lighting, shadows, accelerated action, and special effects. The game is scheduled for release in February 2001, and it will be available through online electronic software distribution only. According to the developer, this distribution method gives consumers the advantages of convenience and greatly reduced prices due to savings on packaging, CD replication, and the elimination of the publishing middleman.
