English game developer Small Rockets has announced that it is currently developing 4x4 Off-Roaders for the Game Boy Advance. The game will utilize voxel technology to run in 3D and will feature three racing environments and three gameplay modes including championship, time trial, and capture the flag. The tracks will include dips and cross-country sections that take place in valleys or on ridges. Races can be held with up to three bot or human opponents with the Game Boy Advance link cable. Small Rockets is still looking for a publisher for the game.

"4x4 Off-Roaders is the first game to provide a true 3D racing experience on the Game Boy Advance," said project leader Marcus Lynn. "Using voxels to render the landscape, we can have realistic physics and allow the player to travel anywhere on the map. With the power of the GBA hardware, all this can be achieved without taking a significant hit in performance--we expect the game to run at a minimum of 20-30fps, even with several vehicles onscreen at once."

Small Rockets plans to eventually develop games for other next-generation platforms. No specific release date for 4x4 Off-Roaders has been announced.
