Final Fantasy XI beta for PC begins

Square has announced that it will begin the beta test of Final Fantasy XI, its massively multiplayer online role-playing game, for the PC starting June 18 in Japan. The company has already begun receiving applications on its PlayOnline Web site, though the recommended requirements are limited to higher-end systems, such as those with a Pentium 4, a GeForce3 (or higher), and more than 64MB of video memory. The beta test will include Final Fantasy XI, Tetra Master, and the PlayOnline Viewer. The beta test is limited to residents of Japan.

The PlayStation 2 version of Final Fantasy XI was released last May in Japan, and it currently has more than 50,000 subscribers to date. The North American release of the game is scheduled for sometime next year.
