Back in April, Sony gave away 250 beta codes to Fat Princess through a competition where prospective players submitted photos of themselves gorging on cake. It's the same activity players must do to the titular royal, who is fed cake, gains tremendous weight, and becomes burdensome to the player's opponents--who must successfully abduct the princess in order to win.

Now, gamers who aren't so gluttonously photogenic can look forward to playing the eating sim this Thursday. Today, the Official PlayStation Blog announced that the PlayStation 3 edition of Fat Princess will make its worldwide debut on the PlayStation Network on July 30 for $15. (A PSP version, Fat Princess: A Fistful of Cake, is due out later this year.) The announcement coincided with the publisher's 18-minute interview video with two of the game's developers--Chris Millar and Craig Leigh--from Titan Studios.

As outlined in GameSpot's beta-test preview of Fat Princess, the title features cute cel-shaded graphics and ultraviolent action. Two multiplayer teams hold a captive princess who can be fed until she is too fat to be abducted by the opposing team. The game features five classes--swordsman, wizard, archer, worker, and priest--and supports up to 32 players online.
