Wizards of the Coast's studio Archetype Entertainment showed off a space epic with generation-spanning consequences.

The new studio Archetype Entertainment revealed its debut game at The Game Awards, a sci-fi RPG called Exodus. The cinematic trailer showed a museum presentation regarding a long-deceased space hero, along with one of her allies left behind who is still young due to the time-bending properties of lightspeed travel.

That trailer hints at one of Exodus' core features, using time dilation as a game mechanic and story feature. As the Traveler, you're sent out on journeys to help humans survive by stealing technology from a hostile race called the Celestials. But as you go on your travels at lightspeed, days pass for you while decades pass for the civilization of humans back at home. Archetype promises that the choices you make will have generation-spanning consequences and compound over time.

“Exodus introduces an innovative new sci-fi world that forces players to face the consequences of their choices over time,” said studio head and cofounder James Ohlen, in the announcement. “We introduce the player, as the Traveler, to an original sci-fi universe, a world created with an incredible level of detail in collaboration with award-winning sci-fi authors. The gameplay setting and story we created is built around the impact of Time Dilation, a concept I’ve been fascinated with since I was 12 years-old. We use Time Dilation as a catalyst impacting the choices you make in-game that sets in motion events affecting your relationships with your loved ones, and your entire civilization, for generations.”

A Founder's Program is launching today, which will include a special Aegis suit with a Founders insignia. A release date has not been given, but Exodus is slated for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
