The cult horror Evil Dead movie franchise will receive a spiritual successor this summer when THQ releases Evil Dead: Regeneration for the PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. The game is being developed by Cranky Pants Games, which worked on Red Faction II and Summoner: A Goddess Reborn.

Gameplay will focus on Ash, the chain saw-wielding, wisecracking action hero voiced by Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell. Ash stumbles upon the Necronomicon, a book of pure evil, while vacationing in the woods with some friends. After being accused of murdering his buddies, Ash is locked up in Sunny Meadows, a hospital for the criminally insane. Ash's doctor discovers the book of evil and attempts to harness its powers, resulting in hordes of Deadites descending upon the establishment

David Bollesen, general manager of Cranky Pants Games, says, "Having Bruce Campbell on board, providing creative direction, and embracing new ideas we've injected into their universe is critical [to the game's experience]."

This is the third title in the Evil Dead series from THQ. The publisher released Evil Dead: Hail to the King in 2000 and Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick in 2003.
