Enroute Inc. announced today that it has become a Tools & Middleware provider for Sony's PlayStation 2. Enroute will develop and offer a toolkit to authorized PlayStation 2 software developers that will enable them to bring Enroute's FirstPerson Immersive Video technology to PlayStation 2 applications. The FirstPerson technology integrates multiple video streams captured by 360-degree cameras into one broadcast-quality stream that allows the user to manipulate the panning, tilt, and zoom, while the video is in full motion.

"The FirstPerson Immersive Video format will expand the breadth of content currently being developed for home entertainment platforms," said Paul Cha, executive vice president of Enroute. "With the upcoming release of our toolkit, PlayStation 2 software developers will able to deliver this exciting new category of entertainment."

FirstPerson tools are currently in development for the PlayStation 2 with other next-generation consoles to follow. The first PlayStation 2 application featuring the technology is slated for release in January 2001.
