I'm not going to buy a game again because it'll send a message to Nintendo that I want a NEW ONE! I bought it years ago.

@HartPuncher There is a fan-made Mother 4 in the works that looks pretty good. I think that's as close as we'll ever get.

@HartPuncher When asked about a new entry, Shigesato Itoi, the creator, replied, "Impossible." However, he didn't even answer WHY it's impossible.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/04/30/earthbound-creator-calls-fourth-entry-in-series-impossible

Nintendo seriously treats Earthbound as poorly as Capcom treats Megaman. Just localize the first and third Mother titles on Wii-U Virtual Console and greenlight a fourth title for eShop. What the hell, Nintendo?

@IanNottinghamX @HartPuncher I'd feel worse for them if they actually released games on their service in a timely fashion (or at all). Anyone who wanted to replay this game until now had to emulate or hope they still had their SNES kicking around

And then there's titles like Seiken Densetsu 3, which was never localized and is only playable in English via fan translated ROM

Yet try to buy a cartridge version of the game and you can easily spend $1000 or more. You won't find one for less than a few hundered dollars. $10 for this classic, RARE game is a steal and I am surprised they didn't charge more as they could have easily gotten it.

@dlCHIEF58 @moistsandwich His point stands though, very few people are going to pay hundreds of dollars for a cartridge. It's not 'pay $10, or pay thousands', it's 'pay $10 or don't buy it'. I'd be willing to bet Ninty would see a hell of a lot more impulse buys if they dropped their Virtual Console prices a bit.

'They could have easily gotten more' - perhaps from you, and some others, but they would have lost many more potential sales. You seem to forget that it's a balancing act - 100 sales @ $5 is going to net you a hell of a lot more than 20 @ $10. This is why mobile games (can) make so much money, people see $0.99 and are pretty much 'sure, **** it'.

Ooooh, snap! You caught me! Yes, dumbass, that's why I used the word 'might'. We can't know without invoking parallel dimensions and alternate futures, hence the speculation (though digital sales trends in the other markets have shown that lowering prices can result in higher net sales - for the third time). I might also point out that your laughable $30 'probably would do great' figure was just as speculative, though completely baseless and pretty much pulled out of your ass.

But you're right about my opinion on pricing being irrelevant. Which is good, because I wasn't giving my opinion on what I think it should cost, I was pointing out that Nintendo might stand to gain more money overall by lowering the price (now, for the fourth time).

Comments are anecdotal at best, I suggested you look, in case you were unconvinced that not everyone is as excited as you to throw down as much money as possible on this. Also, I don't even know how to respond to this, so I'll just quote you:

"Basing your argument on internet forum comments is faulty logic, since the majority are based on complaining and hating to look hip."

You're either trolling, an idiot, or have never heard the word irony before. Me? I'm going with option B, but hey, you never know, right?

And YOUR opinion of how it should be priced is also irrelevant. Basing your argument on internet forum comments is faulty logic, since the majority are based on complaining and hating to look hip. You are also basing your argument for lower price on supposition ("it MIGHT have netted more overall at a lower price."). In other words, you have no idea.

I was using $0.99 to illustrate the point that seems to have flown whooshing over your head. It will sell copies at $10. It would sell a few at $30, and probably even a couple at a full $60 if they'd wanted to. However, it might have netted more overall at a lower price point.

How you feel about the game's value, or whether or not you think it's a 'bargain' is irrelevant. Looking through the comments, it seems Nintendo are pricing themselves out of a good number of sales.

There is a big difference between this game and a $0.99 game on a cell phone. $10 for a game this classic and comes with a hint guide/manual that is viewable on the tablet is a bargain. No need to devalue the game with impulse pricing as it will do great at it's current price point (and probably would have at a $30 price tag as well).

I could say the same about these remarks made by these entitled cheapskates that think they should get everything that is old for free. And I doubt you are even old enough to know what a record is.

Agreed, the only Wii U VC games I got were the .30 cent ones as they overcharge way to much for these older games. They should be no more than a few $ at max imo.

Stop complaining. It's 2 bucks more than a standard SNES game. Fans have been asking for this to be rereleased forever and now that its here, you're going to whine about it being 2 bucks more, less than a cup of Starbucks coffee, than a standard SNES game? For 10 bucks, I can't even get a decent meal at a fast food restaurant.

Yet a cartridge can easily set you back $1000 depending upon condition. You can't find an original copy of the game for less than a few hundred dollars.

@moistsandwich Earthbound has not aged well mechanically, especially where its inventory system and status ailments are concerned, but it's still absolutely worth playing. The Mother series has a timeless brand of charm and humor that one just can't find in other games.

True, and I bet Nintendo could have easily charged three times that amount and still sold a lot of copies to the true fans.

$10 is kind of expensive in my opinion, especially for a game that you can easily emulate for free.

Or pretty cheap when you consider that a cartridge of the game goes for several hundred to a thousand dollars on eBay. And it is legal.

@danganronpas agreed. I've actually never played earthbound before and I was interested but $10 is way too much for a game that is 20 years old.

The problem is that even if Nintendo wanted to make a 4th installment in the series (which they don't), Shigesato Itoi, the series' creator, has said on numerous occasions that the story has finished and that he has no desire to make another game.

Without him, a 4th game would likely not do the other 3 any justice and may cause the series to jump the shark.

I'd simply be happy with an HD remake compilation of Mother 1 to 3 for the Wii U/3DS with an included option to play the original versions, provided that it gets released in English. I doubt something like that will ever happen either :(

Nintendo was reluctant to release this for the Wii because of rights issues. I wonder what kind of deals they had to make, or even if maybe they changed some music the same way certain old TV series do after rights lapse.
