EA clarifies recent offline games comment

Okay, so if EA is not requiring every game to be online, I'm curious as to how much the single player eperience will be crippled without online. I was stuck for two months over the summer without Internet, so I bought some games to keep me occupied. One of those games was Need for Speed: The Run. I was extremely disappointed in how limited the game was without online. All I got was a very short and disappointing story mode and little of anything else, and it's a trend that I don't want to continue. Games functioned just fine before online became big, but developers seem to be forgetting that.

It seems he has been infected with the dangerous "Mattrick flu".

It's sad that he has to come back and re-explain what he meant like as if all video gamers are little babies that need EVERYTHING explained and clear to them.

But I do agree with your point that the consumer shouldn't have to try and read the message behind the message.

This happens every time EA, especially Peter Moore, says something like this. They make some grand statement and then feel the backlash and have to back *peddle* to clarify what they actually meant instead of, you know, not being so open to inturpretation in the first place.

That is precisely why Battlefield 4 has exactly ONE offline mode.

He should choose his words more wisely.

I thought all he meant was that all games would have an online mode and that in each franchise, there'd be a free-to-play game--which is pretty much what they're doing anyway. Just like how most franchises have a mobile game, etc.

I think people are latching onto emotions before reason . . . I suppose his comments weren't too clear though.

Let me clarify. **** you, EA.

I feel like developers should have really gotten it through their heads - or PR departments - that at minimum a clear, consistent message is a requirement when dealing with the active gaming crowd. There is a huge cross section of people involved in the noisy consumer side of this industry, which is mostly great.

But no matter who it is you're talking too, if you say things like, 'EA no longer makes offline games', then clarify with, 'Most EA games have offline mode', people are going to distrust your message in the future.

I don't mind as long as a game's not online only and they aren't trying to charge an extra fee to play online. It's why I don't approve of Xbox Live, Online passes, or PS+ on PS4.

I guess if you don't like all these new models with, DLC, F2P, MP for the sake of MP maybe you should have been more supportive of a company wanting to do something to get control of the used market. All these things exist to keep games in peoples hands and off the shelf an the used store.

Frankly, I think a law needs to be passed making it illegal to resell software. (Or at least within a certain time period.)
