E3 2018: Game Critics Awards Nominations Revealed; Anthem, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Top The List

Best of Show also includes Marvel's Spider-Man, Resident Evil 2, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Every year, a collection of critics from 50 different video game publications (including GameSpot) come together to pick the best games of E3. Not every game is eligible; the game must have been "hands-on playable" to be considered (which is why you won't see exciting games like Cyberpunk 2077, Fallout 76, and Death Stranding on the list). Now, the critics have revealed their nominations for the annual Game Critics Awards.

The biggest award is, of course, Best of Show, and this year Anthem, Marvel's Spider-Man, Resident Evil 2, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are all in the running. Anthem is clearly the breakout success with the most nominations at five, while Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has four. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Marvel's Spider-Man, Resident Evil 2, and Battlefield V each have three nominations.

I guess Ghost Of Tsushima wasn't playable? Because that looks better than the samurai game by From, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Glad Resident Evil 2 Remake made the list.

I still remember how the audience went wild during it’s surprise E3 announcement. Truth be told, I don’t think there was any other game that received as much cheering during any of the conferences throughout the week.

It kind of goes with the territory when you think about it though. RE 2 remake was a legitimate surprise title that no one really expected to be there. Heck, more people were convinced they would see something from Final Fantasy 7 remake or Shenmue 3 before any news on RE 2 remake let alone a playable demo at the trade show.

As exciting as it was for all those in attendance to feast their eyes on a game that has garnered a somewhat mythical status in the “limbo” of gaming projects I think what really pushed the cheering over the edge was the fact that Capcom took the initiative to reveal that it would be released in less than a year. It’s no wonder that when those few characters and numbers popped up on the screen that the chanting and cheering bordered on deafening.

It’s going to be a tough time for all these critics deciding on which game will take home the big Game of E3 2018 but if the fans reaction to any game actually counted for something I could easily see RE 2 Remake getting the nod.
