Several rumors spread across the Internet over the past few weeks in regard to the status of Konami's Castlevania for the Dreamcast. Apparently, the future of the title was uncertain, as staff members were being moved to other projects within Konami. Today, GameSpot News received official word from Konami that Castlevania Resurrection is cancelled.

Konami informed GameSpot that the project has been scrapped, but refused to mention the reason for pulling the plug on it. We speculate that either the game was not heading in the right direction, or Konami doesn't have enough faith in the future of the Dreamcast. Hopefully, the former is the true reason. However, there have been rumors in the past that Konami may shift the project over to the PlayStation2.

We'll let you know if we hear more on the subject. Thanks to Dirk Mastnak of GameSpot Germany.
