Double Agent sneaks out Collector's Edition

It's becoming fairly standard in the gaming industry--high-profile game releases are accompanied by limited, or more euphemistically, collector's editions. These special editions typically feature different packaging, making-of videos, and other goodies, all for usually another $10.

Though Sam Fisher, Splinter Cell's hero, typically does things his own way, he evidently is more than happy to oblige with this new marketing trend. Ubisoft today announced that gamers will have two options to choose from when they pick up the Xbox 360 version of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent--a standard edition and a collector's edition.

The Collector's Edition, which was previously outed by online retailers, will retail for $69.99, $10 more than the standard version, and include the documentary Covert Ops, which concentrates on the game's authenticity. There will also be an MTV-produced making-of featurette, seven "mini Web films," an interview with voice actor Michael Ironside, trailers, concept art, and alternate packaging.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent on the Xbox 360 will be released on October 17 and is rated M for Mature. For more information on the game, read GameSpot's previous coverage.
