Dinosaurs And Zombies Help Capcom

Both of its recent PlayStation titles, Dino Crisis and Biohazard 3, help profit gains for Capcom this fiscal year.

Comments

Capcom announced Wednesday that its current profit-earnings forecast for fiscal year 1999 has risen to 48 billion yen (about US$452 million) from an earlier estimate of 34 billion yen ($320 million). Unexpected sales of Dino Crisis and Biohazard 3 in Japan (Biohazard is known as Resident Evil in the US), as well as the expansion of Capcom USA, contributed to its revised forecast.

Capcom initially expected to ship one million copies of Dino Crisis and 1.7 million copies of Biohazard 3. It has revised its shipment to 2.4 million and 3.6 million copies respectively. Biohazard 2 for the Nintendo 64 is expected to release by this holiday season in the US, and Biohazard Code: Veronica has been delayed to the fourth quarter of this fiscal year. The decision was made by Sega and Capcom, while they wait for more Dreamcast market share. That's ironic, because an earlier release would actually result in the increase of the DC's market share.
