DigiCube Sales Top Five Million
Final Fantasy VII delivers the goods for the Japanese company's convenience store-based sales model.
DigiCube, the company that sells console games at convenience stores throughout Japan, has reportedly sold more than 5 million games. The company announced the figure earlier this month.
Forty percent of these sales were logged by Final Fantasy VII, Square's PlayStation title that tore up sales charts beginning with its release in January of this year.
DigiCube began its convenience store-based sales in November 1996. The company introduced a mass-market approach to computer game sales and, in effect, altered the retail landscape of game sales in Japan.
