Bungie has officially confirmed that Destiny 2's next expansion, The Final Shape, has been delayed from February 27 to June 4. The Final Shape is a major release for the game, as it caps off the 10-year saga that's been told since the beginning of the first Destiny.

"The Final Shape is the culmination of the first 10 years of Destiny storytelling and, for Guardians everywhere, countless hours spent together. We want to honor that journey, so we’re taking the time we need to deliver an even bigger and bolder vision, one that we hope will be remembered and treasured for years to come," Bungie wrote in a blog update.

Bungie added that Season of the Wish will run from November 28 until June 4--the longest Destiny 2 season in the history of the game--with the majority of that season's narrative content concluding in February.

New weekly progression-based quests called Wishes will launch in February alongside Moments of Triumph in Season of the Wish, with that activity having unique rewards for players who take part in it. The annual Guardian Games event is being moved up to March and will offer a refreshed focus on competition between the three Guardian subclasses.

April will see the launch of Destiny 2: Into the Light, a two-month content update for all players that will prepare them for their journey into the Traveler in The Final Shape, and May will see new PvP maps added.

This news comes after an unspecified number of staff members were laid off at the company, with a Bloomberg report claiming that 8% of the workforce--or almost 100 people--were affected in the wake of poor player retention after the release of this year's Lightfall expansion. Revenue is reportedly at 45% under Bungie's projections, and virtually every department has been affected, from QA to social.

"Today is a sad day at Bungie as we say goodbye to colleagues who have all made a significant impact on our studio," Bungie CEO Pete Parsons wrote in a Twitter post that has been widely criticized. "What these exceptional individuals have contributed to our games and Bungie culture has been enormous and will continue to be a part of Bungie long into the future."
