Bungie has offered an update on its upcoming Fireteam Finder tool for Destiny 2, revealing that it will be opening a beta to all players to help stress test the new feature. Despite usually keeping beta tests in-house, Bungie explained that it will be open testing Fireteam Finder--a sort of matchmaking tool for activities like raids that did not previously have one--in order to get it launch-ready faster.

In a new dev blog, Bungie explained its plans and desired outcomes for the beta, especially to "deliver a first-class Fireteam Finder for all activities by The Final Shape" through "a schedule of multiple testing phases that progressively refine the new feature." Bungie has also said it plans to "be nimble" with the testing phase, modifying the beta process as it goes based on any new information or issues that arise.

The first planned open beta event is a stress test focused on raids that will run on November 30. In keeping with the idea of being nimble, Bungie says it hopes to run the test from 9 AM to 5 PM PST, but may have to end it early if necessary.

The results of the stress test will determine when the full open beta will launch, but Bungie is hoping for a December beta in time for a full launch in January.

Players who want to participate in the November 30 stress test can access it from the Director using the Roster tab, or through the Fireteam Finder access point on the activity's launch screen. The stress test will use a simplified version of the Fireteam Finder AI, with Bungie planning on adding more features for the beta and the final launch. Bungie also revealed that it's developing an out-of-game version of Fireteam Finder that will replace the current group-finding systems on the Destiny 2 website and companion app. While this feature won't be available for the beta period, Bungie is aiming to eventually have it fully integrated with the in-game system.

Destiny 2's next season is the Season of the Wish, which starts on November 28 following the weekly reset. The new season is bringing an upgraded version of Dragon's Breath to Destiny 2, as well as cosmetics inspired by The Witcher.
