Destiny 2: Beyond Light, the game's next big expansion, has been delayed. Bungie announced on its website that it's pushing the launch to November 10 across all platforms, including PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

"The past few months have been a challenge and will continue to be during this pandemic," it said in a post. "We've learned to create together in a new way, by having to work apart from one another. Despite these hurdles, we're still committed to the same level of quality that our fans expect."

Further specifics were not shared for what prompted the delay, though Bungie said it's "doing what's best for the game" by moving the launch date back.

Coinciding with this move, the current season, Season of Arrivals, is being extended all the way until November 10. It was previously set to end on September 22, Beyond Light's previous release date. That's especially notable because the release of Beyond Light will see chunks of content temporarily removed from the game as Bungie utilizes a new strategy.

Bungie said in the post that it has plans to do something to compensate for the extension of the season, which could come in the form of additional content, but at this point we don't know exactly what to expect.

"Over the coming weeks, we'll be unveiling more of what we’re working on for Beyond Light and what that also means for Season of Arrivals, which will now extend to November 10," Bungie said. "Beyond Light sets the stage for an incredible future in Destiny 2 and, though it's coming later than we originally anticipated, we're excited to continue that journey with you this November."

In a subsequent blog post, Bungie outlined some of its plans for expanding Season of Arrivals; an updated roadmap calendar can be seen below. Moments of Triumph will also be extended until November 10. Festival of the Lost will take place during this season, beginning on October 6 and running until November 3--it will be free to all players and include new masks, triumphs, and "mummified rewards." And ritual activity modifiers will be introduced that provide increased valor, infamy, and something that is redacted, plus more Iron Banner events.

Beyond Light is set to be a major expansion for Destiny 2. Among many other things, it introduces a new location (Europa) and Stasis, which is a new elemental power that joins the existing trio of Arc, Solar, and Void that have existed since the debut of the first Destiny. Beyond Light's story will deal with the impending arrival of the Pyramid ships that have been teased for the past few years.

This is the first of three annual expansions that were announced earlier this year, with Witch Queen to follow in 2021 and Lightfall in 2022. It's unclear if those launches have been impacted at all by this delay. You can read more about the upcoming expansion in our Beyond Light pre-order guide. Destiny 2 is also coming to both PS5 and Xbox Series X, with free upgrades for existing owners. Likewise, Destiny 2 cross-play is on the way.
