Despite "Challenges," Capcom Expects Exoprimal Will Be Profitable
Capcom is looking on the bright side for prehistoric shooter, Exoprimal.
Exoprimal isn't doing too shabby, says Capcom. In its latest quarterly earnings call, the company updated investors on expectations for its latest releases, including its new dinosaur-themed multiplayer shooter.
"Given that this game is an all-new IP, the situation is not without its challenges," Capcom told investors. "However, we view the fact that the game has amassed over 1 million players to be positive."
"Going forward, we will continue to release content for the game while monitoring player behavior with an eye toward expanding sales."
As an all-new IP, Exoprimal doesn't have the same built-in fanbase that a series like Street Fighter 6 would have. However, it seems to be doing well enough at the moment that Capcom has faith in its continuing success. Capcom doesn't see it being "unprofitable" at this time.
Exoprimal received middling reviews following its July launch, adding up to mean score between 67 and 73 on Metacritic. In its Exoprimal review, GameSpot praised the variety of exosuits and upgrades, and the different dinosaurs that kept matches fresh. However, the opening hours and story weren't as compelling as our reviewer hoped and the progression didn't offer enough to feel significant.
Meanwhile, Street Fighter 6 is thriving. Capcom declined to comment on internal budget specifics, but disclosed that it expects Street Fighter 6 to surpass Street Fighter 5 in lifetime sales.
Exoprimal is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. It's also available on Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
