DeathSpank crushes PSN
PlayStation Store Update: Hothead's comic-action RPG now available to download next to helicopter adventure game Landit Bandit; heap of NCAA Football 11 add-on content also available.
The past two weeks have treated the Sony faithful well. Modern Warfare 2's Resurgence map pack arrived last week and the PlayStation Plus premium service launched the week prior. Though not as heavily laden as the two week's prior, today's update still brings Hothead Games' DeathSpank and a stack of NCAA Football 11 content.
Arguably the most prominent release for the PlayStation 3 this week is DeathSpank ($14.99). In the action role-playing game, players drop into the boots of protagonist DeathSpank, a character who embarks upon a violent adventure in search of a mysterious object known as The Artifact. Throughout the tale, players will encounter an assortment of enemies and can equip looted armor and weapons from the fallen foes. The game is a product of Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert, who has since left Hothead.
Also available for the PS3 this week is Landit Bandit ($9.99). From Bearded Ladies (a five-man development studio), this title calls itself the creator of the "semi-casual-retro-chopper-adventure" genre. The game is centered around heroes Marley and Lander and takes place in 20 unique levels. The game features both single-player and two-player split-screen cooperative campaign play, as well as online leaderboards.
On the add-on content front, NCAA Football 11 received mounds of additional digital wares to play with. The NCAA Power Pack ($29.99) adds each team's Dynasty Time Saver, the Online Pass, the ability to save 120 TeamBuilder teams, and more. Additional NCAA Football 11 content is available at prices ranging from $.99 to $14.99.
Only one PSP game was made available this week and that title is Groovin' Blocks PSP ($9.99). The gem-matching puzzle game incorporates music into its 50 unique levels. Additionally, the game sports 20 distinct songs and three difficulty settings.
Switching to demos, Sony added trials for Activision's arcade racer Blur and DeathSpank for those who wish to try before purchase. The Blur demo is multiplayer-only, and it was not noted what the parameters of the DeathSpank demo are.
For the music-game fans, Guitar Hero welcomes three songs from Avenged Sevenfold, and Rock Band receives five tunes from The Vines and one from Sweet Billy Pilgrim.
A full list of the week's deals and new PlayStation Store content, including themes, wallpapers, demos, discounts, and add-on content, is available on the PlayStation Blog.
