"A surprise contender" for Deadpool's sidekick.

Michael Shannon, Stranger Things' David Harbour, even Russell Crowe and Brad Pitt were rumored to be in the running, but now it looks like the role of Cable in Deadpool 2 will go to Josh Brolin.

The Oscar-nominated actor is no stranger to superhero movies; he's played the voice of Thanos in many Marvel Cinematic Universe films and will return again in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, due out next year. Now, The Hollywood Reporter says he is the official pick to play opposite Ryan Reynolds as he reprises his role in Deadpool's sequel.

Rob Liefeld and Louise Simonson created Cable, describing him to The Hollywood Reporter as "the opposite of Deadpool: a man who is a leader and used to being obeyed, who is very controlled but with an aura of simmering violence." X-Men fans know him as the son of Cyclops, and a hero in his own right, and now one that will get his own live-action interpretation.

Deadpool 2 will also feature Domino, played by Atlanta star Zazie Beetz. There's no release date yet, but filming is reported to start in Vancouver this June.
