Published by Bantam and due to arrive in the United Kingdom on September 8, Dead Island is being written by Doctor Who: Ghosts of India author Mark Morris.

According to Bantam, the £6.99 ($9.50) Dead Island paperback novel will follow the pursuits of four vacationers trying to stay alive on the tropical-paradise-turned-undead-infested-island. Dead Island has been announced only for the UK, and as of press time, Deep Silver had not responded to GameSpot's inquiry regarding international release plans.

As for Dead Island the game, the title is set in a secluded resort and tells the brutal story of everyday civilians caught up in a zombie apocalypse. Gamers can choose among four character classes: the leader, the tank, the jack-of-all-trades, and the assassin archetypes. Every character starts out the same way--suddenly attacked by zombies at the hotel, knocked out, and dragged to a nearby pool house converted to a shelter.
