DC: Joker Movie's First Poster Released, Teases Trailer [Update]

The Joker movie's first teaser trailer is coming Wednesday.

What a wild 24 hours for the Clown Prince of Crime. Less than a day after Gotham revealed its final Joker look for the Fox show's upcoming series finale, the first poster for the upcoming Joker standalone film has arrived. Joaquin Phoenix plays the titular madman in Joker, from The Hangover director Todd Phillips. [Update: The Joker trailer has been released, and it offers us our first good look at what to expect from the new movie.]

The poster doesn't give away too much, other than a slight look at Phoenix in this movie's take on the iconic Joker makeup and a fair amount of blood smeared in, as he looks to the sky. In the film, Phoenix plays Arthur Fleck, a man that essentially dons the white paint and maniacal smile to become the Joker. We don't know much in the way of plot details yet, but a previous photo released by Phillips suggests Fleck may actually be a circus clown.

Teaser trailer tomorrow. #JokerMovie

A post shared by Todd Phillips (@toddphillips1) on

Thankfully, we should know more about the movie--and this version of the classic character--very soon. Along with the poster, Phillips promised that the first teaser trailer for the film would be released on Wednesday, April 3. So make sure you check back for that.

The poster's arrival comes at a very interesting time, as Phillips posted it the same morning that Avengers: Endgame tickets went on sale--and crashed many ticketing websites. If you need something tide you over until the Joker trailer is released, though, you can obsess over this new Endgame teaser.

Joker also stars Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Marc Maron, and Frances Conroy. It's currently scheduled for theaters on October 4.

This better be a good origin story of one of DC's classic villains. Can't wait.

I'm more interested in this than I thought I would be...or should be, given DC's recent offerings.

I'm hoping all that we've seen and heard so far is part of a "joke" marketing scheme...

Strange casting choices. I guess it'll be hard to beat Leto and Suicide Squad as the worst Joker ever. How hard is it to find someone with Ledger's style and Mark Hamill's laugh? LOL.

@bdrtfm: Joker doesn't belong to Ledger and Hamill. Let other people do their own take on the character. Leto only did was he was told, a great actor was wasted on a bad concept, that's all.

@Bread_or_Decide: Please point to the part of my comment where I say the Joker belongs to Ledger and Hamill and where I say to not let other people do their own take on the character.

And in what Universe was Ledger's batman a great actor wasted on a bad concept? A bad concept that won 10 awards, including the only actor to ever win an Oscar playing the role and is widely considered one of the best in a looooong line of characterizations. Just because you are in the minority on something, doesn't give you the right to get all cranky with me. Even people who hated the Dark Knight say Ledger's portrayal of the Joker was the saving grace of the film and what kept them interested and watching.

Also, learn to recognize sarcasm when you read it.

@bdrtfm: If you read his comment a little better; he stated LETO'S Joker was a great actor wasted on a bad concept. Which, unfortunately, is true.

God with all the casting changes in the last few years, I'm getting so confused about DC's movies. Are they still attempting to make a "DCU"? Is this part of it? Which films are part of it, and which films are no longer part of it? (after all, we're now getting a suicide squad reboot)

Honestly, storywise, this is getting harder to follow than the x men franchise.

@v1ndictive: The DCEU is dead. They're all stand alone films now.
