DC Announces Rorschach Watchmen Sequel Comic

DC has announced a new 12-issue Watchmen follow-up titled Rorschach, coming from Tom King (Mister Miracle, Batman) and Jorge Fornés (Batman, Daredevil). The series will be released digitally and in stores October 13.

Set 35 years after the events of the original landmark graphic novel written by Alan Moore, Rorschach centers on the inexplicable re-emergence of the title character, the costumed vigilante who was last seen meeting his death. A press release tees up the 12-issue run's plot as: "What does it mean when Rorschach reappears as part of a pair of assassins trying to kill the first candidate to oppose President Robert Redford in decades? Follow one determined detective as he walks backward in time, uncovering the identities and motives of the would-be killers, taking him deep into a dark conspiracy of alien invasions, disgraced do-gooders, mystical visions, and yes, comic books."

"Like the HBO Watchmen show and very much like the original ‘86 Watchmen, this is a very political work.” said King in the release. “It’s an angry work. We’re so angry all the time now. We have to do something with that anger. It’s called Rorschach not because of the character Rorschach, but because what you see in these characters tells you more about yourself than about them.”

Joining King and Fornés on the series will be colorist Dave Stewart and letterer Clayton Cowles. Jae Lee will provide a variant cover for the first issue.

This is not the first sequel the Watchmen series has seen. In addition to the popular HBO series, there was a previous comic series titled Doomsday Clock that began in 2017.
