Eurogamer's Digital Foundry has posted its latest performance analysis report, this one for upcoming remastered role-playing game Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin. The report concludes that while both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions run at 1080p, the PS4 edition has a better overall frame rate.

"Xbox One pays a persistent price for matching the PS4's visual standard," Digital Foundry writes. "Both formats target 60fps and engage v-sync at all times, but Microsoft's platform suffers the greater drops between the two in each scene of our frame rate analysis."

One area in particular, The Forest of Fallen Giants, highlights the frame rate disparity quite convincingly. During this enemy-populated area, the PS4 edition is able to regularly achieve 50-60fps, while the Xbox One edition is about 10fps below at 40-50fps during this particular segment.

"Sony's machine does not produce a perfect 60fps of course, but it is a consistently better performer--and in a game that demands pinpoint timing for rolls and ripostes, the smoother frame rate can make a difference," the report states.

The full technical analysis is a really interesting, in-depth read. For more on the game's visuals, you can check out GameSpot's Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin graphics comparison video above.
