Dark Sector delayed until 2008

D3 Publisher and Digital Extremes push back the first publicly announced next-generation console game until next year.

Three years ago, little was known about the latest crop of consoles. The platforms had not yet been unveiled--or even named--and not a single game had been announced. That changed in April 2004, when studio Digital Extremes revealed Dark Sector, the first game to have the distinction of being officially in development for "next-generation consoles."

In late 2005, Digital Extremes announced D3 Publisher would publish the game in the third quarter of 2007. Besides some press previews late last year, hardly anything else has been heard about the title--until today. Following reports on FiringSquad and in the latest issue of PSM, D3 Publisher confirmed the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 title has been delayed until next year.

"D3 has decided to pull Dark Sector out of a very crowded fourth quarter and the game is now slated for release in Q1 2008," a rep told GameSpot. The rep also clarified that the September 2008 date in PSM was "incorrect."
