Daisy Ridley is coming back to play Rey once again in a new Star Wars film, and she's now said that this movie will take the sci-fi series to potentially new places. But it remains to be seen exactly what that means.

Speaking to AlloCine, Ridley said she was happy to sign on to appear in her fourth Star Wars movie after learning what the story would be. Of course, Ridley is not divulging what this is, but it was enough to draw her back.

"Once I knew what the story was and everything, I knew that it was something that I really wanted to do I think it's a really fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world," she said. "It's a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction."

She added: "I loved making all three films and I'm very happy to get to do it again."

Ridley made her Star Wars debut as Rey in 2015's The Force Awakens, going on to reprise that central character for The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

Before this, Ridley told Collider her new Star Wars movie was "not what I expected" in terms of the story. She also mentioned that she does not know if this will be the first in a new trilogy or not.

Oscar-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is directing the new movie, and this marks the first time a woman has ever directed a Star Wars movie. "We're in 2024 now, and I think it's about time we had a woman come forward to shape the story in a galaxy far, far away," she said.

In addition to the new Rey film, James Mangold is making a Star Wars movie about the early days of the Jedi, while Dave Filoni has his own Star Wars movie cooking as well. Taika Waititi is also making a Star Wars movie.
