Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Teases Witcher 3-Style Expansions

"We're not withholding content."

Cyberpunk 2077 is finally releasing in April 2020, and it appears launch will be just the beginning for The Witcher developer's next big RPG. The game's UI coordinator, Alvin Liu, told Prima Games that he expects the game to receive expansions after launch, just like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

"We want to make sure everything's complete, but we also want to build open worlds," he said. "I know when I was playing The Witcher 3 and I finished everything, I still want to know what everyone was up to. I think we're going to have opportunities like that as well for Cyberpunk 2077."

Now Playing: Cyberpunk 2077 Expansions Planned Just Like The Witcher 3 - GS News Update

Throughout Cyberpunk 2077, players will encounter characters and see them develop over time. The ending to the main game will be "rewarding," Liu said, though there may still be room for additional storytelling just like The Witcher 3.

"So I don't want to spoil anything right now, but very satisfying story arc, right? You're going to see characters and you'll see them develop," he said. "You're going to see them go through conflicts and resolve those conflicts. It'll be a very rewarding ending. We're not withholding content, we're not withholding story for the future to try to, you know, monetize it or sell it in pieces or anything like that. You're going to get the whole, full value game here."

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt offered heaps of free DLC before it released two major paid expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

CD Projekt Red has yet to officially announce any expansions or post-release content for Cyberpunk 2077, which makes sense given the studio is focusing on preparing the base game for release.

Cyberpunk 2077 launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 16, 2020. The Matrix actor Keanu Reeves plays a major role in the game, though unfortunately he won't sing. Meanwhile, CD Projekt Red's most recent game, The Witcher 3, is headed to Nintendo Switch.

I think the moon colony and orbital space centre can be one of the DLCs.

The Witcher 3 didn't offer heaps of anything before it launched it's DLC. It doled out some unused skins and a couple armor and weapon sets it cut from the game and pretended it was giving us "free DLC". Anyone that fell for that cheap marketing move is a chump.

@loveblanket: And you know this how? Getting sick and tired of people dumping on CD Projekt Red lately. The Witcher series are the best games I've every played with tons of FREE content. They have no DRM, no 'surprise mechanics' alias loot boxes, great stories and fantastic gameplay!! CDPR is the best! They get it! Unlike EA, Bioware and Blizzard! Really looking forward to Cyberpunk and I don't give a crap about all that PC, woke BS so-called games journalists are trying to stir up!! And, FYI, I'm a 65 year old female who loves gaming and is NOT offended by anything in games and online!! Just give me a good story, good guns or weapons and STFU!!

@loveblanket: It was still free while every other developer would have charged you for it. And I don't see why they'd cut out such simple things when they could easily create them instantly. Yes, those were probably in part cut content, as in content that just didn't make it into the game. They could have just as well not released it but you're complaining that they did? For free? I guess some people are never satisfied.

@loveblanket: Don't forget the free beard and a new dress for Ciri.....that was some free "DLC" that saw me replay 200 hours of gameplay. I really enjoyed the game, but am baffled at the devotion to CDPR.

Exactly the only honest way to sell a game.

So, they are going to release two expansions? The last expansion will probably be the same as last witcher 3 expansion, as in as a farewell good bye expansion. I hope, just like the last witcher 3 expansion, CD Projeck will a provide a new region to explore.

@watercrack445 That's not really the way Cyberpunk's map is. I would guess that an expansion would give us more access to parts of the city and buildings that we can't access in the main game. Expanding up instead of out.:

@watercrack445: Might not be realistic to expect a new city though. Like with Witcher 3 Blood & Wine it was one city and the rest of map was rural country side. With Cyberpunk 2077's city being more dense I'd imagine a new region could explore more of back water rural futuristic America.
