The fan-favorite Arms Race mode has officially returned.

Comments

Counter-Strike 2 just received its most significant update yet, adding the ever-popular Gun Game (aka Arms Race) along with a whole host of new customization options.

Arms Race has officially made its return in Counter-Strike 2, having been temporarily absent after Valve converted Counter-Strike: Global Offensive into the FPS sequel in September 2023. It's Gun Game as all shooter fans have come to love and expect: Race to get kills with each of the game's weapons, with the final game-winning kill forcing players to use a knife, or now, the Zeus stun gun.

Speaking of the Zeus, the weapon has finally received some love as of the Call to Arms update. The weapon now has a 30-second recharge in all game modes, received its first skin as part of the update's Kilowatt Case, and now supports custom tags and sticker placement. In regards to sticker placement, all weapons now support custom placement, meaning stickers are no longer limited to a few preset positions on each weapon. Each weapon additionally can support up to five stickers now, giving players more customization options than ever before.

Customization makes up the bulk of the update. The Kilowatt case is CS2's first weapon case and features 17 community-designed weapon skins and a new knife for players to collect. Other additions include the Ambush Sticker Capsule, which sports 21 community-designed stickers, and six new music kits for players to purchase should they so choose.

The rest of the update is relegated to bug fixes and a few small adjustments to reduce things like "peeker's advantage," which had been a complaint among top players in the game's community since launch. Other changes include the introduction of end-of-match defeat animations and a new "XP Overload" icon that accompanies player names and can stack week to week to show when someone has earned all their normal weekly XP.

Counter-Strike 2 continues to be a powerhouse for Valve and Steam, and is regularly one of the most-played, if not the most-played outright, Steam games on any given day by concurrent player count. Counter-Strike 2's release signaled the end of support for the shooter on older hardware and Macs, a move that affected less than 1% of the game's playerbase, according to Valve.
