Conan O'Brien Announces Final Show At TBS, Moving To HBO Max Next

We knew Conan O'Brien was ending his late-night TV show on TBS, Conan, and now the air date for the final episode has been announced. The show will finish its run on June 24, 2021.

Conan originally moved over to TBS from NBC after he left The Tonight Show, joining TBS in 2010 and running the new late night show since then. The show has changed formats since the pandemic, and O'Brien is now also the host of a popular podcast, Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend.

In a press statement, TBS said the final weeks of Conan shows will feature "special guests" and a hour-long finale with highlights from the past 11 years.

As announced previously, O'Brien will then dedicate his time toward his new WarnerMedia deal that includes creating a new show for HBO Max. TBS, which is also owned by WarnerMedia, said the new show will be a "departure from his current traditional talk-show format."

"In 1993 Johnny Carson gave me the best advice of my career: 'As soon as possible, get to a streaming platform,'" O'Brien joked about his new job. "I'm thrilled that I get to continue doing whatever the hell it is I do on HBO Max, and I look forward to a free subscription."

O'Brien started in late night all the way back in 1993 when NBC hired him to host Late Night at just 29 years old. He received a $32.5 million settlement from NBC related to his early departure from his contract at the network.

Earlier in his career, O'Brien wrote for Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons. He famously wrote the memorable Season 4 episode, "Marge vs. the Monorail."
