PlayStation 2 and Xbox owners with motion sickness take note: Ubisoft today announced that Cold Fear has arrived in stores. The seaborne shooter was developed by Darkworks, the team behind 2001's Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare for the Dreamcast, PlayStation, and Game Boy Color. A PC version of Cold Fear is set for release later this month.

Cold Fear stars Tom Hansen, a member of the US Coast Guard sent to investigate a floating Russian barge in the Bering Strait. Once aboard the whaling ship, he encounters infected crewmen and some strange creatures that are more than a little miffed with Hansen's presence.

The gameplay features dynamic weather elements that make the environment both friend and foe. The screen will pitch and roll with the ship's undulations, and waves will crash overboard, causing the hero to lose his footing and crash to the deck. The game's interactive environment also allows Hansen to burn, electrocute, and reveal enemies in various ways. For example, shooting a gas line will release a jet of fire, immolating foes, and pushing enemies into circuit breakers will fry them to a crisp.

Cold Fear is rated M for Mature and has an MSRP of $49.99. For more information on the horror action game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage, including a recent hands-on preview.
