Comments

Activision has provided a first look at the upcoming Season 1 update for Modern Warfare 3, which includes a tease for the continuation of the Zombies storyline, Dark Aether rifts, and new acquisition schematics to unlock.

Currently, players have three story acts to complete for a set of story cinematics, but Season 1 is set to expand Treyarch's ongoing narrative. As teased in the latest Call of Duty blog post, players will be tasked to investigate a massive, mysterious gateway appearing on the Urzikstan map.

Dark Aether Rifts are another Season 1 addition. These rifts are a new endgame experience to master once players have completed the seasonal mission. The blog describes them as a way for players to "encounter a sinister and chaotic challenge," and these interactions will include a time limit for completing objectives.

There's also another Wonder Weapon arriving with the big update. A modified V-R11 Wonder Weapon lets players transform both zombie and human enemies into loyal allies, which is an effect players will likely be familiar with if they played the Call of the Dead map in Call of Duty: Black Ops. Lastly, there's a new category of unique acquisition schematics that players can unlock.

An official date hasn't been provided yet, but Season 1 of Modern Warfare 3 is set to arrive sometime in early December. Here's everything announced for Season 1 of multiplayer, including brand-new core multiplayer maps, Gunfight, and more.
