Civilization Revolution 2 Plus Coming to PS Vita With Exclusive Content

Turn-based strategy game will arrive on Sony's portable in time for Christmas.

2K Games has announced Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution 2 Plus will be released for PlayStation Vita on December 3. The game will launch with "a number of scenarios, units, and world leaders from Japan's history that you won't find anywhere else."

One scenario, titled "Journey to the West", will allow players to use TaiZong against Saladin to capture Byzantium. The other scenarios, called Wrath of Emperor Kublai, Samurai Invasion of Korea, Z-Flag Swirls, and Dark Clouds in the Pacific, are set during different points in Japanese history.

The new leaders include Oda Nobunaga, who bestows a samurai bonus; Heihachiro Togo, who has naval combat bonuses; and Himiko, who provides governmental bonuses. The new unit is the Yamato battleship, which has "improved attack strength, at the cost of compromised defense capability, compared to normal battleships."

Unlike the first Civilization Revolution, which was released for consoles, PC, and mobile, the sequel was initially only available for mobile devices. The game is developed by Firaxis Games, which--according to recent reports--may also be releasing XCOM: Enemy Unknown for the Vita.

In July, an entry on a Korean video game ratings board listed a game titled XCOM: Enemy Unknown Plus. The addition of "plus" to the title may indicate that, like Civilization Revolution 2, it may feature exclusive content, though this has not been officially confirmed. Since then, the ESRB has also listed XCOM: Enemy Unknown for Vita.

"the Yamato battleship, which has "improved attack strength, at the cost of compromised defense capability"

What the what? It took eleven torpedoes, six bombs and who knows how many near misses to sink that thing. "Compromised" my ass.

@Zazabar: It's designed for mobile/consoles, PC has the regular version, I think the author made an error saying it was released on PC?

I tried it on my iPhone some time back. The inability to sell units really limited the strategic flexibility/creativity. The spin your own civ features was a nice addition. If the ability to sell units is back, then I might take another look. It's really too bad CivRev2 never made it to consoles. We contributed a lot of ideas on the Firaxis website (spin your civ being one of them), would have been cool to see a new version on consoles.

I love CivRev/CivRev2, since you can play an entire round during a single flight.

BUT... They really need to patch a lot of bugs in CivRev2. Interface bugs, logic bugs, unit bugs, animation bugs... Just boatloads on the current version, and they haven't patched the game in almost a year.

Sweet! I do enjoy Civilization a lot and now I can play it on the go.

Anyone find it odd that Lincoln was the guy apparently leading the American Revolution, not Washington?

EDIT: When I tried to post the above, it gave me this message: "The CSRF token is invalid. Please try to resubmit the form."

So I try to submit again, and get this message: "Slow down there turbo, you're acting like a bot."

I'd love to get Civ Rev 2 on consoles as I really enjoyed the 1st one. I also loved the original Civilization and its sequel Civilization 2 was even better. When Sid got the series back and Fraxis made 3 and 4 they just didn't live up to their predecessors. The lack of resources and crushing corruption really ruined 3 and 4 was just too convoluted. I never even tried Civ 5 and beyond, even though it seems to address the stack of doom problems with 4. Yeah, Civ Rev was just a dumbed down version of Civ 4, but it was so much more enjoyable to play. You didn't have to micromanage everything. The game flowed along a good clip and every turn didn't drag out into hour or more.

@Suaron_x: I always thought Civ 3 and 4 were the pinnacles of the series. I never really got super deep into them but some of those mods were incredible! I never got into the old ones because they were before my time. I absolutely hated Civ Rev just cuz it was so dumbed down and it had terrible console controls.

@KahnArtizt: what? The controls were great. It was a great slimmed down version of the real thing, at least I thought so. I spent hours upon hours on that game on 360.

You are definitely right about the fully fleshed out games of Civ 3 and 4 though, epic games, great attention to detail. The best was playing against a group of friends haha, 4 hours of building up, followed by 10 minutes of having your cities decimated haha

@Evenios: I play mine at work every night (boring overnight job with lots of stretches of downtime). Turn-based stuff I don't need sound for like Civilization works best if I need to pause and do something, so this announcement is super great.

@Evenios: PLay it every day during my commute. I play PS1 RPGs I missed out on and Currently enjoying the shit out of Disgaea 4 and Jeanne D'Arc. It's an RPG and indie machine. If you want anything else... well, it's slim pickings.

@Evenios: I sold mine a while ago. I loved some of the games: Wipeout 2048, Gravity Rush, Killzone Mercenary, and other similar titles. However, once I had completed the dozen or so games that I actually wanted the system for I had nothing left to do other than PSP titles.

Yah! A sequel to a game I'd rather play the full version of on PC and a port of a game that came out several years ago!

Vita, how I tried to love you....

@NoahRoalson: I never liked the dumbed down Rev games. I gave both of them a chance and hated both of them. Civ 4 was my personal favorite. Deepest entry in the series, minus the goddamn hexagons.

Great news! Will give me a reason to get back to my Vita, and should keep me playing for a long while.

Portable strategy games are the next greatest things to strategy games played on a dedicated PC.

@fize4ever: I have an HP Backflip that I use to play Civ 5 with touch controls. Works well enough, but the processor has trouble keeping up despite it being an $850 laptop. I can't handle the dumbed down Rev games. Hot trash for dumbed down mobile gamers if you ask me...
