TOKYO - As first reported by GameSpot News two weeks ago, Chrono Trigger 2 will be coming to the PlayStation. That's right, Chrono Trigger's sequel has finally been confirmed.

The game's title is Chrono Cross, and details for the most part are unavailable. We do know that scenario designer Yuji Horii and character-design and animation specialist Akira Toriyama are no longer involved with the project. This time around, Nobuteru Yuuki will be fronting Chrono Cross' character design efforts. Yuuki's previous works include the Record of Lodoss War movie based on the TV series of the same name, X: The Movie, the Vision of Escaflowne TV series, Tail Concerto for the PlayStation, and Square's own Seiken Densetsu 3. What changes this new designer will bring to the series remain to be seen, but he's a well-respected animator, so the choice appears to be a good one.

Chrono Cross on the PlayStation is scheduled for release this winter. It will have Dual Shock and PocketStation support. Also, a playable demo of the game will be bundled with Legend of Mana, along with Front Mission 3, Dew Prism, and Vagrant Story (nonplayable).

Expect full details on Chrono Trigger 2 on GameSpot News next week.
