Chrono Cross Remake Reportedly Set For Announcement

The original PlayStation 1999 JRPG is reportedly coming back.

A remake of the classic PlayStation JRPG appears to be on its way. While it's reportedly being announced by Sony, it might be a multiplatform release rather than a PlayStation exclusive.

Last month, VGC reported on claims that PlayStation was going to announce a remake of a "big game" around Christmas time. These claims were made by folk singer Ava, who told the Irish radio station WLR FM that she had recorded an Irish language theme for the game.

Now, XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker claims that the remake is actually Chrono Cross Remastered. The title of Chrono Cross was present on the Nvidia Leak back in September. On his podcast, Baker says, "What else I was told—because everyone’s working under the assumption that it’s a PlayStation exclusive—I’ve been told that it’s not. The only word that was used was 'multiplat.'"

There's been some confusion since PlayStation would be announcing the game, people might assume that it would be an exclusive title to the platform. Baker clarified that he assumes that the remaster will at least appear on PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, as all of his sources mentioned the word "multiplat." He also isn't sure if the game will be supported on Xbox.

While Sony hasn't announced any recent State of Play presentations, it's possible that this remaster could be revealed during The Game Awards 2021 on December 9 as it is poised to show 40-50 games.
