Christopher Nolan's New Movie Tenet Delayed Again, This Time To August
Warner Bros. had planned to release the movie in theatres in July.
Warner Bros. has delayed The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan's mysterious new movie once again. Tenet's release date is now set for August 12, following a recent delay that had pushed its premiere from mid-July to July 31.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is pushing the release date once again due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in America.
Warner Bros. has released some of its other movies on streaming services, including Scoob!, but the film company won't do this for Tenet, even if it means multiple delays.
"Warner Bros. is committed to bringing Tenet to audiences in theaters, on the big screen, when exhibitors are ready and public health officials say it's time," a spokesperson told THR. "In this moment what we need to be is flexible, and we are not treating this as a traditional movie release. We are choosing to open the movie mid-week to allow audiences to discover the film in their own time, and we plan to play longer, over an extended play period far beyond the norm, to develop a very different yet successful release strategy."
As recently as a few weeks ago, Tenet was still expected to open in July as the first big movie to hit theaters after they were shut down due to the coronavirus. Many other movies had seen their releases pushed back, in some cases by significant windows, as was the case with Fast and Furious 9, which was delayed from this past May until 2021.
Tenet--which is written and directed by Nolan--stars Robert Pattinson, John David Washington, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Martin Donovan, Kenneth Branagh, and Elizabeth Debicki, in addition to Michael Caine who played Alfred in Nolan's Batman movies.
The movie remains a mystery in terms of its plot and story. Pattinson recently said the movie is like the "greatest plate-spinning trick you've ever seen."
Meanwhile, several of Nolan's past movies--including Inception, Batman Begins, and The Prestige--will stream inside of Fortnite today, June 26. A trailer for Tenet recently premiered inside of Fortnite.
