The Pokemon-like monster-catching RPG Cassette Beasts is getting a set of updates this spring, including the ability to play with friends. As shown during the 2024 Cassette Beasts Showcase, Bytten Studio is planning a multiplayer update to come on May 20, but you can test it out right now.

With the upcoming multiplayer mode, you can play with up to eight friends, and join a "Play with Friends" mode where you'll match via invite code. You can also challenge your friends to PvP battles with custom rules, trade tapes, and team up for two-player co-op raids against Rogue Fusions. If you just can't wait until May, you can try out the multiplayer mode now on Steam by selecting the beta branch.

The showcase also announced that the game is set to release on mobile devices soon, letting you collect your tapes on the go, wherever you are. A specific release date was not announced.

Also coming in May, Cassette Beasts will crossover with the fellow Pokemon-like Moonstone Island. That game, released last year, injects Stardew Valley-style crop-tending and a deck-based battle system to the creature collecting. As part of the event, Cassette Beasts will get Moonstone Island-themed costumes, and Moonstone Island will get Cassette Beasts' Pombomb added to its roster of Spirits that you can capture.
