The iconic Marvel hero debuts on the side of a building

Production is underway on Captain America: Civil War, the next film from Marvel Studios, and on-set photos have revealed the first look at the Black Panther.

The film is currently shooting in Berlin, and these pictures, published by ComingSoon.net, show the iconic superhero also known T'Challa in action. The character is being played by Chadwick Boseman, and in these pictures, his stunt double can be seen scaling the side of a building in costume.

Captain America: Civil War will be the first film in Marvel's Phase 3. Due for release in May 2016, it tells the story of the conflict between Captain America and Iron Man following government regularization of superhero activity. It's directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who helped turn the second Captain America movie, 2014's The Winter Soldier, into a $700 million smash.

In addition to the Black Panther, Spider-man is also due to make what will be his first appearance in a Marvel Studios film. This will pre-empt a standalone reboot of the Spider-man franchise in 2017, co-produced by Marvel and Sony, after a deal was struck between the two studios in February this year. British actor Tom Holland was recently confirmed as the new Peter Parker. A Black Panther movie will follow in 2018.
