Capcom: Resident Evil 6 successful 'to some degree'

Publisher says record setting shipments of new action game make it somewhat successful; "too early" to make judgement regarding critical response.

Resident Evil 6 did not win praise across the board at launch last month, but the game shipped a Capcom record 4.5 million copies initially. This equals success to "some degree," according to comments from the publisher recently during a question and answer session.

No Caption Provided

"Resident Evil 6 continues to generate repeat sales in Japan and overseas. Furthermore, initial shipments set a new record for a Capcom title. So this game has been successful to some degree," reads a line from the response.

Regarding the game's critical response, Capcom isn't yet ready to make a judgement.

"We therefore believe it is too early to reach a conclusion about how users view this game. We always listen carefully to the feedback from users and use this information when developing game," the statement reads.

GO CAPCOM!!! I love "Resident Evil 6" can't wait for the camera and Ada DLC next month. BTW, I am STILL playing "Resident Evil: Revelations", "Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City", "Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D", "Resident Evil 5" and "Resident Evil 4 HD". Not to mention "Street Fighter X Tekken", "Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3", "Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition" and "Tatsunoko vs. Capcom". Haters, GET A LIFE!!! For real like. ^_^

Sales speak out more than criticism to developers.

Even if the game is bad or not we'll probably see another Resident Evil game even if you like it or not.

How the hell does the number of SHIPMENTS make a game successful? You could ship 80M copies and if you sell 200 it's still not successful. This is the second article about Capcom bragging about numbers SHIPPED. I'm starting to think this was a bigger flop than they're letting on.

@AmnesiaHaze @XxTheEvilxX @rann89 Actually. I think what matters to them, is that the shipped copies don't end up in the bargain bin of retailers. In which case, if they did, it's likely those retailers won't be "buying" many copies of the next installment. So, ya, back to the original argument, shipped =/= sold. It just means that the retailers are stuck with them and obviously be rather unhappy with the RE "brand" for future releases.

@XxTheEvilxX @rann89 Um., I do believe that when a developer ships a game, they sell all those copies to the distributor (be it GameStop, Amazon, Ozone) etc. So the game selling companies or whatever buy all the copy in the shipments and then they sell them to make their own profit. Otherwise that means that they get those for free and then have to give a cut of the profits to Capcom which is a flat out retarded way of making money both for the distributor and for the developer. It's also a lot slower for the developer.

I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me but I think Resident Evil 6 is the best one yet. The actually loved the ideal of having multiple campaign's. A lot of people probably feel like they have gone away from the original Resident Evil's and of course they have to some degree. Times change and so do games have to change as well. The story was fairly well and the new character's are a pretty good addition to an already great cast of characters.

Did Capcom even break even with Resident Evil 6. "Success to some degree" recoup the development cost of Resident Evil 6. of was the goal to just piss everyone off?

@DeanoFantasy Dead Space was that last hope for the horror genre, console wise, don't play PC games. But when I saw footage of DS3 at E3 it seemed "sped" up and looked like they were leaning towards 3rd person shooter.

@bubba_1988 @DeanoFantasy Yep, with a cover system, co-op, human enemies, and a reliance on guns instead of the traditional DS maintenance equipment. DS3 looks like it's pulling for the same kind of action formula as the new RE games. No franchise is safe from the disgusting mass-marketability machine run by publishers.

@Mrod1212 Yeah, I agree. The lack of weapon upgrades and re-use of levels killed any interest I had in replaying the game.

4.5 out of 10 was a dumb anyway. give it arrest guys, the game is good and if it were shipt as a different title everyone would have been eager to get the follow up for RE6.

You can't make the "well if they didn't promise us a Resident Evil game, but a 3rd person shooter we'd have all loved it" line man. That's the thing that pisses people off in the first place.

@Joeguy00 At the time I complained about its departure from survival horror yes. As a game overall though I had few problems with it. I actually got a lot of hours of enjoyment out of it and played a lot of co-op.

@Joeguy00 True, you didn't. But I would ask this question of anyone who makes this type of complaint against RE6. If you were standing idly by and said nothing against RE5 then you can't go acting all surprised over the way RE6 turned out.

I didn't complain about the game. Did I complain? Or say you can't qualify you statement with a "well if they didn't do the thing that annoys you then you would like it so don't complain." Which is what the person said.

@davsonamission Well maybe not. RE6 was not well received BECAUSE of this change. Maybe it'll be a wake up call. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I bet that we see fewer shooters as time goes on now.

Exactly. I can hear the video game company campaign slogans already.

CAPCOM: We understand what are constituents want. Trust me.

BETHESDA: Read my lips, no new bugs.

Irrational Games: I voted for multiplayer in Bioshock before I voted against it.

EA: I'm not a crook.

Well I liked the finished product as a game just fine but as a Resident Evil fan I was disappointed. I like many others wanted a return to the series survival horror roots just with updated graphics, storytelling and mechanics.
