Capcom Not Bringing Resident Evil To Nintendo Switch

"We have no plans at the moment regarding Resident Evil on Switch."

Capcom has said it is potentially interested in making games for the Nintendo Switch, but it doesn't look like the Resident Evil series is among them, at least not yet.

No Caption Provided

Producer Masachika Kawata told Express Online about the Switch, "I think it's a very unique piece of hardware." However, Capcom isn't bringing Resident Evil to Switch now or anytime soon.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Resident Evil Won't Arrive On Nintendo Switch

"I'm looking forward to the possibilities of the system itself, but we have no plans at the moment regarding Resident Evil on Switch," Kawata said (via NeoGAF).

Capcom is among the dozens of development partners for the Switch, so it's possible some Capcom games will come to the console.

Resident Evil 7 launches on January 24 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It was recently confirmed that it's an Xbox Play Anywhere game for Xbox One and PC.

The next Resident Evil movie, The Final Chapter, meanwhile, comes out on January 27--watch the newest video for it here.

As for the Switch, it comes out on March 3 for $300.

It's just as well, it's not like anyone is going to buy the inferior Switch port anyway. They would need to create an original exclusive RE game for Switch to get anyone interested.

@fluffy_kins: Yeah, kind of like how Resident Evil 4 was an exclusive on Gamecube until Sony fanboys wailed and banged on the floor with snot dribbling out of their noses for a port.

@RoachRush: Or maybe because the majority of ther series fanbase were on the original PlayStation it would have been logical to make the game for the PS2 instead of stupid GC.

@snaketus: Hey now, the GC was a great console. My main console was the GC back in the day, but yeah I imagine being a PS gamer and being barred from games like RE0, REmake, and 4 was pretty frustrating. It's kind of incredible to think that at one time, Nintendo was able to secure 3 exclusive Resident Evil games for their console. And now Capcom doesn't even bring RE to Nintendo systems anymore.

Nintendo is probably charging them a stupendous amount of royalty fees to bring their games to the platform, either that or capcom is waiting to see if the Switch is gonna sell enough to consider the investment and they might change their mind later.

@Dark_sageX: Wrong and wrong, the hardware is garbage and can't handle the game, it can barely run the cartoonish Zelda at 30 FPS at 900p. It's never getting heavy hitters that actually require serious power.

@Daian: You calling RE games from 1 to 6 "Heavy hitters"? They were talking about the series, they didn't specifically talk about RE7.

No one cares. Just bring the RE2 Remake as well as the RE1/ Zero and 4 HD remasters.

This isn't really newsworthy since most developers have no plans investing their money and development time on Nintendo systems anymore. If those announced 3rd party games don't end up selling well then they'll probably just bail out shortly and no longer publish more titles for it just like during the Wii and Wii U era.

Most likely wouldnt be able to run it, they have barely caught up to Kingdoms Of Amalur from 2012, graphically, with the new Zelda. Kingdoms OF Amalur really didn't get enough love, I enjoyed that game!!!

The Switch isn't powerful enough for the new Resident Evil. It would have to be graphically downgraded. Anyone thinking Nintendo finally has a power/graphics contender is lying to themselves. I'm not saying it can't be a really fun system. I'm definitely thinking about getting it, but it wouldn't be for the graphics.

This system has me worried. I'm gonna take a wait and see approach. They need strong 3rd party support if they want the Switch to be taken seriously. Instead of being known as the kiddie console.

@xgalacticax: PS3-looking graphics? You need to get your eyes checked again. It is closely on par with Silent Hills P.T in terms of photo realistic/reality graphics. Only two of them look the most impressive in graphics in horror games up to date, Outlast 2 has no chance to match them, not even Layer of Fear or anything. Unless RE7 is downgraded to at least the same as Outlast graphic, then yes the Switch can run it. Nevertheless, Switch have to make it through with Outlast 1 first.

This was the console that was supposes to attract and bring 3rd party and yet again here we go again with this trend of not even considering the Switch or a Nintendo console for a key game. Is just the same old tale. Nintendo refuse to understand the importance of having something that is competitive and choose ignorance over what was needed to stay competitive and remain in the race and choose to create something that can't even match tech of 4 years ago. Now 3rd party has already started to response to Nintendo ignorance by choosing not to do a game for their console. I know that there is a lot people saying oh look how many 3rd party sign up to do games for the Switch but what they has fell to see is that the Wii U had a similar line up of 3rd party's and how many games did they do for the Wii U? the answer is almost nothing.

@angrycreep: I imagine that their thinking is that, by this point, most everybody who'd buy a Switch already has a PS4 or Xbox to play those multiplatform games on. I mean, if the Switch hardware was on par with the Xbox and the PS4 ... who would care? Who's going to buy it for multiplatform games that hasn't already bought another system for multiplatform games?

If Nintendo had launched the Switch 3 years ago, this would have mattered, but now ... it kinda doesn't. Nintendo needs to do things the PS4 and Xbox don't do in order to be successful, because the PS4 and Xbox are already well established. Being able to play the same games the system(s) you already own do isn't really that big an advantage.

And lay off the bold; there are starving kids in Africa.

@spectrexr1: Do they really need third party multiplats though? I mean, they can get third party exclusives the same way everybody else does, with money, but since so many gamers already have a system to play multiplatform games on, would anybody actually buy a Switch to play CoD or Madden? When they've got a PS4, PC, or Xbox to do that already?

I think the way Nintendo prevents the switch from failing like the Wii U is to make more and better first party stuff for it, and to actually make the pitch of it being a home console AND a portable a reality. Right now I don't think the Switch is really a viable portable system; especially if Nintendo was telling the truth about the 3DS having a long life ahead of it.

@bigdaddyshouse: I agree that they need more exclusives than they can probably develop by themselves. Nintendo apparently still has a huge warchest, maybe they ought to use some of it to lock up some exclusives from some of the major publishers.

@Mogan: what if they don't have Xbox or ps4 what if they friend on switch buy madden if they want to play with them they would buy it... Gamers need that choice.. If they buy a sswitch they can still play all the other great games not just nintindo games. Only this u could play n wii u was nintindo games and it failed... Only thing u going to play on switch is nintindo games and its going to succeed? How? Switch is weak think by 2021 switch will be useless

@spectrexr1: I'm guessing your examples are kind of edge cases and Nintendo would garner fewer sales by changing the Switch into a PS4/Xbox competitor than they will by making it this unique home/portable system with a funky controller gimmick. I doubt they'd be able to get the Switch to run the next Assassin's Creed or whatever without making the hardware a lot more expensive or sacrificing their gimmicks for the sake cutting costs and the Switch being a traditional console.

I think we'll actually see a decent amount of 3rd party games on the Switch, for example NBA 2K18 is already announced, I'm guessing as long as the game isn't pushing the PS4 to it's limits, it won't be very hard to port games like racing, fighting, hell even open world games like GTA V would work on the Switch, when you take everything in to consideration, the Switch is really just slightly less powerful than an X1 while docked., and since it uses cartridges it can actually operate fine with less RAM, not only that, a cartridge can include hardware, the SNES had some games with the SuperFX chip such as Star Fox.

So think of it this way, a lot of data you'd normally have to install, or stream from a disc slowly will instead be almost instantly pulled from the cartridge, if a dev wants to add a little extra power to a game, they can work with Nintendo to add on to the cartridge, I'm sure Nintendo wouldn't mind having what amounts to a new SuperFX chip that allows things like physics to be called from the cartridge instead of wasting console resources.

Point is, we won't fully know what the Switch is capable of at first, because we haven't had a true cartridge based console in a very long time, minus handhelds which are a different beast.

@mkeezay22: Problem with your proposal: unlike with cartridges, which had a lot of empty space within that could be used to contain larger than normal boards with extra chips, the Switch GameCards don't have the room.

I love these ''Nintendo not getting X game'' articles. Every single time Nintendo releases a ''console'', it's the same thing. Capcom has just started the train. I used to be pissed because I actually HAD faith in their ''consoles''. Not anymore. Take that you bloody bastard!!!(Nintendo)

@xolivierx: Read the article. It doesn't say Nintendo won't have X game, it says Nintendo won't have X game AT THE MOMENTwhich mean X game could come sooner or later. Capcom wants to wait and see how well does the Switch and that's clever from them.

@westsiderz28: The Switch actually isn't that far behind an X1 in terms of power, really they could probably port it at 720p and have it look near identical to the X1 version, obviously it would need a few things slightly dialed back, but the new RE isn't so demanding that the Switch can't handle it, now if we were talking a game like Gears 4, or Uncharted 4, no way Nintendo can make a game look as good as a first party PS4 or X1 games, but a lot of 3rd party games could come to the Switch that really aren't much different than the X1 or PS4.

NBA 2K18 is already announced and looks just like the PS4 and X1 version, so I'm guessing a lot of fighting, racing, and other not so resource intense games will be fine on the Switch.
