Capcom ending dial-up services in Japan

Soon publisher will no longer offer online support for older games that use dial-up connections.

TOKYO--Capcom has announced that it will end the online services in Japan for most of its games that use dial-up connection. Capcom vs. SNK 2 (PlayStation 2, Dreamcast), Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes (PS2), Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation vs. Zeon (PS2, DC), and Auto Modellista (PS2) will no longer be playable online after August 2, 2004. Capcom will continue to offer dial-up support for Auto Modellista US-Tuned and Mobile Suit Gundam Z: AEUG vs. Titans.

Since Capcom’s more recent games require broadband connections, it was only a matter of time before the company closed down dial-up game services. Together with the cancellation of the four games' online services, their official sites, including sections such as the rankings page, will be closing down.
