Activision today announced Extinction mode for Call of Duty: Ghosts, after images and video from the mode appeared this weekend.

Extinction mode is an all-new 1-4 player cooperative mode that is said to offer a "unique blend" of survival action, base defense, scavenging, and class-leveling.

Atrailer for the Extinction mode (below) shows squads of soldiers laying waste to alien enemies in a dilapidated city. Multiple alien variants are shown.

The Extinction mode for Call of Duty: Ghosts adds to the game's single-player campaign, standard head-to-head multiplayer mode, and Squads mode.

Call of Duty: Ghosts launches on November 5 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions will be released as launch titles later in the month.
